The never-ending quest......

"When you look at the long history of man, you see that more hideous crimes have been comitted in the name of obedience than have been comitted in the name of rebellion."

This is a much-repeated quote from my favourite novelist, CP Snow (his Strangers and Brothers series should be required reading for anyone interested in politics, whether at local, national or institutional level).

I like to think that it has real lessons for education too - how do teachers reconcile the truth in Snow's statement with their never-ending quest for the perfectly obedient class?
