Cisco comes home...
| First Cisco bought Scientific Atlanta in February to bring them leading edge end-to-end voice and video integration technologies and distribution networks, and now they are to acquire Arroyo who offer video-on-demand technology that they market as 'personalized television'. Cisco, for so long the main provider of the big global-class routers that run the massive backbones of the internet, are now positioning themselves to play at home too, and in a big way if these latest acquisitions are anything to go by. Linksys, of course, has been in the Cisco stable for a while, so they are already in many homes providing wifi networks, but this has all the hallmarks of a determined stride into the anything-on-demand-so-long-as-it-can-be-delivered-over-IP market! If Cisco are going there, others will follow soon after - a fascinating battle should ensue! |
