Free our Data
![]() There's a link on the Free Our Data campaign site to the Public Geo Data site - this was set up in response to the decision by the Council of European Union known as the Inspire Directive, namely that it, "has formally adopted a common position on the Inspire Directive, which stipulates that Geographic Data collected by National Mapping Agencies all over Europe should be owned by such agencies and not by the Public." The site includes a 'Petition for Public Access to Geographic Data in Europe' asking Members of the European Parliament to amend this directive in favour of free geo data. ![]() On the Guardian campaign itself, I should have noted in my first post on the subject that Charles Arthur, Guardian Technology editor, had a joint role with Mike Cross in starting this particular ball rolling.
