John Connell: The Blog

The point is not to interpret the world but to change it.

Weblogs are passionate

So says Euan Semple, and I agree with him.

I follow many blogs through my RSS aggregator – in education and technology, of course, but also in politics, media, business, global development, science and others – and the ones I go back to time and time again, and certainly the ones I tend to glance at first each day, are those that have passion!

Passionate bloggers do not need to fall prey to wild-eyed fervour; rather they engage with their subjects deeply, knowledgeably, critically, sometimes emotionally, but always with commitment and authenticity. Some of the best blogs I read are written by people with whom I disagree on pretty much every issue they discuss, but I enjoy them because I know they are written with passion and because they force me continually to question my own assumptions.

It is difficult to remain complacent in the face of passion.

Euan’s interview is one of a series conducted by Lilia Efimova. The interview with Dave Snowden of Cognitive Edge is worth a read too.

This is great, John. I think I’ve got a whole morning of reading ahead of me. I’ve already sent the links to someone who is interested in knowledge management but sceptical about the value of blogging.
