Coffee Break Scottish for Comic Relief

I recall being told by an individual, very soon after I joined Cisco in early 2007, that I would have to coach myself to speak slowly and clearly so that I would always be fully intelligible to customers and other audiences across the many parts of the world I would be visiting. The person telling me this was a colleague from Poland, who gave me his advice in broken and gutteral English (still much better, of course, than my Polish).

The problem, according to this individual, was my Scottish accent. He learned a couple of fine old Scots words that day when I told where he could put his advice :-)

So, for those like my colleague who find the Scottish accent hard to follow, Mark Pentleton, of Coffee Break Spanish fame (and the man behind a growing suite of language learning podcasts from Radio Lingua), has put together a tongue-in-cheek podcast on our quaint vocal and linguistic habits, which you can download for the princely sum of £3 ($4.14 / €3.23) from here. All proceeds go to Comic Relief.

Unfortunately, Mark and his team have not included on the podcast any of the words I taught my Polish colleague…….
