Santayana quoted

George Santayana was a Spanish-American philosopher who is probably better remembered for his aphorisms than for his philosophical thinking. A couple of his pithier statements could be applied to large swathes of educational policy over the past 30 years or so:
Fanaticism consists of redoubling one’s efforts after having forgotten one’s aim.
And probably his best known epithet:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Now, at which national politician would you most like to recite these statements?

Hi John, we could direct all education ministers (no matter what political persuasion) at these comments. Perhaps if they put more trust in the profession we might not repeat the mistakes of the past.
