Will Lion’s Bites

Posted on | March 27, 2009 | 1 Comment

Just one gem amongst hundreds from Will Lion.

A recent post from Graham Wegner – I’m Not Sure What I Expected – shows a black and white image of a bookshelf with a motif inserted into the image: “Books outsell every other product on the Internet.” The statement comes from Nielsen Online (and there’s even a humorously cynical comment from Stephen Downes below the post).

The image-and-text combination is a re-mix by Will Lion, whose Flickr site is a treasure trove filled to the brim with hundreds of such fusions of eye-catching images and thought-provoking words. He splits his work into Digital Bites and Mind Bites.

The re-mix above – Humans and Technology – is just one from a collection, at the time of writing, of more than 400 such gems. Will makes creative, and proper, use of Creative Commons images made available in Flickr.

And, for an extra-tasty viewing experience, away from Flickr, take a look at his TiltViewer gallery. Of course, Will’s re-mixes are themselves published under a CC licence – some great ready-made material for your lessons, presentations, posters….or any other permissible use you can think of.

    John,
Very well made and timely point about the books. Only this week I was advising a school on design and when I discovered they were going to replace their existing library containing 12,000 books, with 3 LRC/internet cafes containing (in total) 5,000, I almost fell off my chair. I joked they should just get rid of all their existing books, put bookshops in the new spaces and call them Starbooks!
