Open Cloud Manifesto

Posted on | March 31, 2009 | No Comments

My Cisco colleague, and cloud computing guru, James Urquhart, has published a link to the Open Cloud Manifesto, which seems to have been outed a little earlier than planned. As James notes, the document is not, at this stage intended to be a declaration of standards, merely a statement of principles that it is hoped will stimulate discussion of this critical issue.

To quote from the site:

Cloud computing is still in its early stages, with much to learn and more experimentation to come. However, the time is right for the members of the emerging cloud computing ecosystem to come together around the notion of an open cloud.

At this point, around 40 companies are signatories to the Manifesto, including Cisco, IBM, Sun, AT&T, Telefonica, SAP, EMC, Juniper, AMD and others; however the Big Four of Cloud Computing are not currently amongst the list of signatories.

The Manifesto can be accessed both in HTML and as a PDF from the link above.
