Sunspots? Not quite….

So, what’s so amazing about this photograph of the sun? It’s not the image of the sun that’s amazing, but those two tiny black dots on the bottom-left of the image – click on the image to open a larger version and you’ll see them more clearly.
But you will have to check out Phil Plait’s post on the Discover Magazine blog to find out what exactly those little spots are….

It certainly gives you a sense of perspective.

It does, Alan – especially when you consider that the Hubble is in a ‘low earth orbit’, less than 600km above the earth, just a tiny distance away from Earth compared to the 93m miles to the Sun.
