SLF: a great social event

I had a great evening last night in the company of the team that we brought together in Learning and Teaching Scotland back in 2004/0, after 3 years of development work, to negotiate the contract for Glow and then to kick start the process of implementing the national learning platform. It was nice to see the likes of Alan Atwell, Ron Rossvoll, Rosetta Mcleod, Johnny Laville and Neil MacFarlane, as well as the others that I’ve been able to keep more in touch with: Tricia Muldoon, Gemma Gibson, Paul Campbell and, of course, my Cisco colleague, Jim Buchan. The only missing face was that of Jack Davidson who had a family commitment to attend to.
Last night’s dinner (and a few drinks afterwards) was the precursor to what I hope will be two interesting and enjoyable days at the Scottish Learning Festival. While the SLF’s exhibition cannot claim to match the sheer size and scale of the BETT Show, the (much more important) conference programme at SLF has to be one of the biggest and best of its kind anywhere in the world – and it’s all free!
Even more important, from my point of view, is the fact that SLF is an annual opportunity for me to catch up with hundreds of friends, colleagues and acquaintances, many of whom I hardly see from one year to the next. If previous years are anything to go by, I am likely to find myself at the end of the day tomorrow with a dry throat and a hoarse voice because of all the talking I will be doing with so many good people over the next 30 hours or so. I’m looking forward to it.
