Now Look…

I came across Ronnie Wood’s second album (can we still call them that?) on the iTunes Store, one that I have owned on vinyl since it came out in 1975, the year that Ronnie left his old pals in The Faces to join a little combo known as the Rolling Stones. The music on ‘Now Look’ is rough, almost live in feel, and the production values reflect that feel (it was recorded on an 8-track in the basement of his London house at the time) – but it is a collection of good, simple, laid-back tracks, with bits of rock, rhythm and blues, funk and soul all in there.
It includes a great version of I Can’t Stand the Rain, which had been a hit for Ann Peebles just a couple of years before (she co-wrote it with Donald Bryant and Bernard Miller) , but the self-penned pieces are the best, especially a track called ‘Breathe on Me’.
Brilliant! Now all I have to do is reconcile myself to the fact that it is now 32 years since I first bought the LP!!
Postscript – before I get asked: ‘LP’ stands for ‘Long Player’, a 12-inch vinyl record that usually held a whole ‘album’ of music (as opposed to a 12-inch single, for instance) – it was played on the turntable at 33rpm (as opposed to 45rpm for a single) – once a teacher….. ![]()
