John Connell: The Blog

The point is not to interpret the world but to change it.

Webkinz

Pete Cevenini, a Cisco colleague from Washington DC, and who has young children of his own, tells me that Webkinz is sweeping the 3-5 years old market in the USA. Webkinz are little fluffy toys that come with a web account (a ‘unique secret code’) for Webkinz World. In the online world, the owner of a Webkinz (a Webkin?) takes ownership of a virtual analogue of the physical ‘pet’ and can then become immersed in a highly colourful and fun environment.

A virtual learning environment for pre-schools? A social network for 3-5s? Both, and much else besides, perhaps.
