Visuwords

I have been using the Visual Thesaurus for a while – it’s a subscription service and I have downloaded the desktop version for use offline when I need it. It is a great tool, and its 3-D display is fun to play with as I explore the richness of language.
But Judy O’Connell has pointed us towards Visuwords – this looks better than the Visual Thesaurus, is richer in terms of the semantic information presented, and it is free! The only downside, I guess, is that you have to be online to use it – but you are free to download the source code under a public licence agreement.
Use the fullscreen version – very nice indeed!

Do you not read my blog any more, Connell?!
Only kidding. Visuwords was a great element, amongst others, for getting students thinking about how they write, in this case using computer games as a stimulus:

You’ve written three posts, btw, which are in tabs waiting for me to comment. Bear with me…

Sorry I missed that one, Ewan. How are things?
